Due to the Phil Cooke Challenge ride being cancelled earlier this year (February) following a freak overnight snow fall we have decided to re-run it on 3rd October 2010 (when hopefully the weather will be kinder to us) and include an extra distance of 16km's (10 miles) for the not so fit riders, new starters or family groups. All routes will enter the two counties of Northamptonshire and Warwickshire and include some testing hills which all riders completing their respective distance should be proud to conquer.
The ride is held in memory of popular rider and local champion Phil Cooke who tragically lost his battle with cancer in July 2005, Phil was a modest man who gave much to people and sought little in return, just the opportunity to ride his bike at every opportunity, appreciate the beautiful local countryside, and race with some of the best riders in the country. This ride takes in the roads Phil so loved to ride.

Phil Cooke in action
This year the Phil Cooke Challenge ride will be held in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care . The charity provide high quality nursing care in the homes of terminally ill people and hospices throughout the UK.

This event has attracted around 250 riders in past years (in cold February) and we are expecting a record turn out at this revised date of 3rd October 2010, all riders will receive a starter pack which will include, Route details, Fundraising ideas and sponsor form, registration number and other appropriate details, (first 250 registrations will a Marie Curie Cancer Care Tee shirt in their pack) and it is hoped the event will contribute to the continued support Marie Curie Nurses can provide to those of us that one day may come to appreciate it.
The route is well marked out and all finishers will receive a certificate of achievement for their chosen distance.
This year we are going to limit the number of entries to 500 and and riders can enter via this website (see "Registration" and "Enter here" pages), via local bike shops in the Rugby, Coventry and Leamington areas, and on the day if the numbers have not been reached (£12 entry on the day).
We look forward to seeing you all invest in your health and fitness whilst appreciating the local countryside, having fun and helping a worthy cause.
